A residential quater surrounded by greenery –
vibrant city life in the making
Once wide meadows used to lure Berliners here beyond the city gates for rest and recuperation. Later on, shortly before the rural community of Boxhagen became part of Berlin, the area increasingly turned into a traditional commercial district. Today, following extensive planning, what is emerging here is a new, diverse residential quarter around a large public urban park.

Young, dynamic, creative –
a happening place
Friedrichshain – a joint city district with Kreuzberg – is one of Berlin’s most stimulating and creative areas. With its diverse cultural scene and nightlife, it attracts especially young people. The alternative crowd meet in the many clubs and art galleries, at the open-air cinema on the RAW site and at concerts in the Astra Kulturhaus or mingle into the colourful hustle and bustle on the Oberbaum Bridge, where the OpenAirGallery takes place each May. Be it music, sport, art and culture or simply relaxing together in a beer garden – the range of leisure activities for young and old is huge.
